This forest service cabin packs a lot of charm into a small footprint 


Located near the American River, the Pacific Crest Trail, and a short drive from the Sierra at Tahoe ski resort, this forest service cabin is ideal for adventure lovers of all stripes. The green wooden exterior and shingled roof are original and totally charming.

Inside, the cabin’s main room feels cozy and intimate. Since there’s limited overhead lighting, table lamps brighten the space, while furnishings in rich hues like the green sofa, red dining table, and purple armchair inject warmth and colour. And no cabin is complete without a wood-burning stove, which in this case, is tucked away in a corner.

The kitchen is located off the main room. Although it’s narrow, there are plenty of cabinets, a full-size fridge, and stove. Rather than storing away their collection of cast iron pans in cupboards, the owners of this cabin have them displayed like pieces of kitchen art.

Here is one of the bedrooms that are located on the main floor. To make the most out of an awkward ceiling and small square-footage, the bed frame is built right into the room’s nook. With no space for a bedside table, a wall sconce offers light for bedtime reading.

There isn’t a whole lot of natural light in this bathroom, but we do love that tiny little window above the counter.
